The traditional museum is characterised by its permanent residence. In contrast to this, lies the philosophy behind the Mobile Museums. They have been created to temporarily occupy already significant urban sites. Their structures will create an atmosphere to enliven an urban society.

The interiors of the Mobile Museums will not only stimulate perception but also an awareness and sensitivity will be aroused for the outer spaces. The Mobile Museums aesthetically challenges familiar inner city surroundings by creating and enhancing an unique urban experience.

Each artist will receive a construction kit consisting of modular recycling PVC sheets that they can assemble together to build an individual museum measuring a maximum of 10 square meters.
Due to the modular building method, the artist can construct an accessible structure which forms an independent whole inside and out. The outer structure corresponding to the inner experience.
The Mobile Museums offer a new experience for an exhibition space and a new perspective for the concept of a museum. Being of a modular system, the museum has the possibility to be extremely flexible in regard to architecture, space and a work of art.

The Mobile Museums could be completely closed self-sufficient atmospheric spaces. They could encourage the general public to be actively involved in the process of an exhibition space and participate in discussions concerning the significance of the mobility of museums.
Accessible space sculptures: he Museum as flexible architecture
Due to the modular building method, the artist can construct an easily accessible structure to her / his wishes. In so doing, new architectural structures will be created in each new city visited.
Mobility: the travelling museum
In contrast to a traditional museum that has a permanent position, the Mobile Museums are a nomadic community. They are constantly moving to different urban spaces. Due to the lightweight construction materials, it is very easy to assemble a collective museum community.
Zones of deceleration: the museum as islands of contemplation
The Mobile Museums could be completely closed atmospheric spaces in the middle of an hectic urban environment. Like a capsule of contemplative calm and heightened awareness, they invite the visitors to a highly concentrated, self-enclosed level of perception.
Temporary occupation of urban space: the interactive museum
Accustomed surroundings of a city landscape will be temporarily changed with the presence of the Mobile Museums. What does this mean for the city and the people who live there? How does this effect the surroundings that they are exposed to? How do they interact with society? How do they effect the consciousness of the city?
Art uncovered: the Mobile Museum Studio
Together with the cooperation partners in each city, the Studio space will offer a varied programme from different artists working in public with the public. Artists are invited to engage in site specific interventions.
